Celonis has teamed up with the UK Cabinet Office in a strategic partnership to improve the efficiency of some of its internal processes, including talent acquisition.
Shared Services for Government in the UK is consolidating its background computer systems for 18 departments and over 100 ALBs (Arms Length Bodies) into five shared service centers. It means that the new centers can provide back office services for around half a million civil servants, as well as around 230,000 military personnel (including reservists) and around a million veterans.
The demands to coordinate across departments and navigate the use of legacy systems, which are being phased out, is what makes this an especially complex operation.

Rupal Karia, country leader of UKI at Celonis, first alluded to the upcoming Cabinet Office announcement to ERP Today at Celonis’ annual event in October 2024, saying that while Celonis is “early in our journey in the public sector, we definitely see more interest”.
“If you think about where we started from and where we are, now there are many more conversations about what the next phase [for process mining/ intelligence] is,” Karia added.
To help meet the challenging demands, the Cabinet Office has teamed up with Celonis, with the company supporting the Shared Services for Government by streamlining and replacing about 286 siloed departmental-based legacy IT systems.
For example, the Cabinet Office will use Celonis’ process intelligence platform to improve the processes for onboarding new civil servants, aiming to get new joiners up to speed more quickly. Celonis will also enable teams to identify any anomalies, roadblocks or out-of-date processes, which can be fixed or removed.
The company will also assist with optimizing cross-departmental processes by providing recommendations on best practices and presenting a clear visualization of process data collected across the government.
Karia commented on this latest announcement: “It is essential that government operations run smoothly without being bogged down by inefficient processes. We are proud to collaborate with the Cabinet Office on this project, ensuring they can swiftly and efficiently onboard new civil servants, streamline their background computing systems and receive independent advice on operational practices.”
