Japanese energy company INPEX announced on June 24 it has begun operations on SAP Cloud ERP Private as the IT foundation for its global management reform program.

As Japan’s largest exploration and production company, INPEX previously relied on IBOS, an SAP ERP-based core system introduced in 2008. That platform supported the company’s earlier strategy of maintaining and expanding reserves while broadening its business domains.

The business context has changed. Under INPEX Vision 2035, announced in February 2025, the company is shifting toward what it calls a responsible energy transition while maintaining stable energy supply. That includes responding to geopolitical risk and expanding into lower-carbon businesses such as hydrogen, ammonia, carbon capture and storage, and renewable energy.

That decision shortened development time and allowed full-scale operations to begin in Japan in January 2026.
