Key Takeaways

Acumatica has appointed Jordan Weitzen as CFO, who brings extensive experience from high-growth, data-driven environments.

The partner ecosystem is pivotal to Acumatica's growth strategy, indicating that future investments will focus on enhancing collaboration with Value-Added Resellers (VARs) and Independent Software Vendors (ISVs).

The role of the CFO is evolving beyond traditional finance responsibilities, emphasizing strategic growth initiatives and the importance of real-time, data-rich platforms for decision-making.

Cloud ERP platform Acumatica has appointed Jordan Weitzen as its Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Weitzen will succeed Wayne Kimber who is retiring from this position after serving as the company’s CFO since 2022, Acumatica indicated this week.

In his role as CFO, Weitzen will drive strategic growth initiatives across the industries that Acumatica serves and manage the company’s global finance and accounting organization.

“Jordan is a proven finance leader with a track record of building modern, data-driven finance strategies in fast-moving environments,” said John Case, CEO of Acumatica. “His breadth of experience and operational discipline will help Acumatica scale while continuing to deliver exceptional value to our community. We’re grateful to Wayne for his leadership and wish him the very best in retirement.”

An experienced finance leader, Weitzen served as CFO of global e-commerce software platform Pacvue and of FabfitFun, a lifestyle e-commerce retailer. He has also held senior roles in corporate development and strategic finance at NBCUniversal and Hulu.

“Cloud ERP is the backbone of digital operations for growing businesses, and Acumatica’s product velocity and partner ecosystem are unmatched,” said Weitzen. “I look forward to partnering with the leadership team to accelerate growth, invest thoughtfully in innovation, and strengthen our support for customers across construction, manufacturing, distribution, and professional services.”

What This Means for ERP Insiders

Acumatica is adopting a B2C tech growth playbook for its B2B operations. Weitzen’s background is in high-growth, data-intensive, consumer-facing tech like Pacvue, FabFitFun, and Hulu. As a result, his expertise lies in scaling platforms in fast-moving environments using data-driven finance strategies. This signals Acumatica’s ambition to operate more like a modern SaaS platform. It highlights that this financial leadership is geared towards optimizing a high-velocity, recurring-revenue business, instead of a legacy license-and-maintenance model. ERP Insiders can expect continued investment in user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) along with more data-driven interactions.

The partner ecosystem is central to Acumatica’s growth. Acumatica’s public posture, now echoed by its new CFO, frames the partner ecosystem as a fundamental part of its product and customer success strategy. This implies that many future investments will potentially go towards enabling, training, and co-marketing with Acumatica’s Value-Added Resellers (VARs) and Independent Software Vendors (ISVs). The strategy revolves around scale being achieved through partners, not around them. ERP Insiders evaluating Acumatica as a software must note that they are selecting a local or specialized implementation partner in this deal. This makes their diligence on the partner more critical. For current customers, this means that they must leverage their existing partnership with Acumatica’s ISVs and VARs to enhance their capabilities.

The role of the modern CFO goes beyond finance. Acumatica’s announcement emphasizes that Weitzen’s role is to drive strategic growth initiatives, positioning the role as a forward-thinking strategic partner. It also reflects a changing trend in the cloud ERP market, where the value of a modern ERP goes beyond financial consolidation and reporting to providing a real-time, data-rich platform for strategic decision-making. Thus, ERP leaders must reframe how business leaders view their ERP systems and look at it holistically while demanding more from the financial leadership.
