Key Takeaways

Organizations may choose to stay on-premises with Oracle E-Business Suite due to factors such as control over system performance, reduced total cost of ownership and independence from external network reliability.

Oracle is committed to supporting on-prem applications like EBS through at least 2034, with innovations aimed at enhancing user experience and reducing downtime.

Insightsoftware offers solutions like Hubble, Angles Professional and Wands to improve reporting and analytics for Oracle EBS users, enabling faster report generation and real-time data access.

While cloud has become one of the hottest topics in the tech industry, sometimes organizations choose to stay on-premises due to their current operations and needs.

Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS), the integrated set of business applications for automating CRM, ERP and SCM processes, is one example of an established software that businesses still rely on through on-prem.

Among several compelling reasons why a company may choose to remain on-premises with  Oracle EBS are:

  • Control (the ability to establish an in-house EBS team dedicated to optimizing system performance and streamlining processes)
  • Cost (reduced total cost of ownership when compared to the recurring payments spread throughout the entire life cycle of the system)
  • Conductivity (eliminating the reliance on external network demands, reducing the risk of internet outages).

Considering these factors, insightsoftware, specializing in financial and operational reporting, BI, budgeting and EPM software, sees the prospects of Oracle EBS as promising, with insightsoftware backing Oracle’s enhancement of the EBS suite with valuable innovations aimed at reducing downtime and improving user experiences.

“[Oracle is] committed to supporting on-prem applications, including EBS through at least 2034. We also know that the deadline has moved [a lot] and that signals commitment to supporting customers in their journey on-prem,” Chad Cosper, senior product marketing manager at insightsoftware, said during a recent company webinar.

“Oracle is signaling its commitment to [EBS], which is something insightsoftware is committed to as well.”

As part of its efforts, insightsoftware offers several solutions, including Hubble, Angles Professional, Angles Enterprise for Oracle and Wands, to help enhance users’ abilities in this space.

Hubble works to speed up finance processes with real-time reporting and analytics for software including Oracle EBS, especially in cases where reporting on large datasets may impact performance, leading to slower query response times and lags in real-time reporting.

Hubble also allows users to create reusable report inquiries that can be designed once and used in multiple inquiries with the ability to update objects for all inquiries subscribed to that object, thus saving time.

Similarly, Angles Professional and Angles Enterprise for Oracle were created to accelerate the distribution of actionable, operational reports and analytics, especially in situations where standard ERP reports don’t cover the full needs of operational reporting. In scenarios where creating and modifying reports is subject to long lead times and heavy dependency on IT, Angles comes into play to help produce reports and analytics.

Wands in turn was designed to simplify report creation and offer real-time insights within a familiar Excel environment to accelerate financial processes in EBS. While taking the decision to stay on-premises with Oracle EBS can involve the use of complex reporting tools and lengthy data refreshes, Wands was created to help with real-time data access. This eliminates the wait for data refreshes, thus enabling faster report generation and analysis based on up-to-date information.

With these enhancements and EBS’ established advantages of all data points in EBS flowing directly into a business’ database to “allow for a complete single data source that makes it easy to manage reports and gain insights into your business,” as said by insightsoftware’s Chad Cosper, EBS remains a powerful tool for those organizations working on-prem.

In this way, the already established software continues to play a pivotal role in organizations’ ongoing operations as businesses do their best to create a future-facing strategy of moving to the cloud at their own pace and in tune with their needs.
