Unit4 used its North American Customer Day in Montréal to describe how ERPx is evolving from recording what happened to helping organizations decide what to do next and, ultimately, act. Unit4 cites more than 10 years of AI investment behind that direction.
Customer Day also covered planning, reporting, and integration sessions, outside speakers on AI governance and workforce learning, and the first Innovation Lab, a hands-on pilot in which customers prototyped ideas with Unit4 product teams.
Unit4 Describes ERPx Moving From Recording to Acting
ERP software has traditionally served as a system of record for finance, people, and projects. Agent-driven approaches add software that recommends actions and, within limits the business sets, carries them out.
Unit4 built the day around a theme: organizations can create measurable impact when intelligence is built into everyday work. Unit4 CEO Simon Paris described ERPx moving from recording to helping organizations decide and act, and cast the roadmap as customer-led: “Your feedback, your use cases, your challenges are driving our roadmap.”
Sessions covered how connected data supports forecasting and scenario planning. Extension Kit and App Studio, Unit4’s low-code tools for custom apps and workflows, were demonstrated as ways to connect systems and automate processes.
Outside Speakers and Customers Shape the Message
Altaz Valani of InfoTech Research Group described AI moving from human-led copilots toward more autonomous, agent-driven ways of working. Realizing its value also takes strong governance and trusted data, he emphasized, so organizations can innovate responsibly.
James Buhagiar of Docebo outlined how Learn Plus by Docebo connects learning with Unit4 HCM. Supporting learning across key employee moments, he said, can reduce administration and improve compliance visibility. Unit4 lists Docebo’s learning platform as connecting learning programs with Unit4 HR data.
The first Innovation Lab, a hands-on pilot, put customers and Unit4 product teams together to build and prototype ideas in real time. Participants presented their results on day two, and Unit4 describes the exercise as faster, customer-driven innovation.
Customer Day Direction Matches July AI Trial and Governance Terms
Paris’s description matches how Unit4 framed ERPx in July 2026, when it announced “AI for Your World”. Unit4 said most ERP systems record what has happened, while ERPx is built to understand what it means, which it calls a system of reason. Ava, its Advanced Virtual Agent, orchestrates agents across finance, projects, and people.
New and existing ERP customers who register by December 31, 2026 can try Ava and other AI capabilities through August 31, 2027 before choosing whether to subscribe, a structure that lowers the commercial risk of testing AI in live ERP environments.
Governance runs through the same framework. Every AI action stays inside customer-set rules enforced by a policy, threshold, and delegation engine, Unit4 said, and can be attributed to a named human. Unit4 serves more than 4,700 customers across sectors that include professional services, nonprofit, and public sector.
What This Means for ERP Insiders
The system of record is taking on decisions. Unit4 describes ERPx as moving from recording to deciding and acting, and calls it a system of reason, which changes what customers expect from finance, people, and project data. Records become the input to action instead of the endpoint.
Governance sets the pace of AI value. InfoTech’s Valani places governance and trusted data alongside technology adoption as the source of business value, and Unit4 builds attribution to a named human into its AI framework. Governance sits beside capability in how Unit4 and Valani describe agent-driven work.
Customers test agent-driven ERP before they commit. Unit4 pairs its roadmap with a trial of Ava and an Innovation Lab that brings customers into prototyping. The trial lets customers test agent-driven software before budget is committed, and the Innovation Lab pilot lets them shape what gets built.
