Everyone is talking about moving to cloud these days, but what does it actually mean for businesses? Well, for many it is an opportunity to embark on the journey of digital transformation, pushing forward investment opportunities and driving innovation in the organization. However, those who have considered or are in the process of moving to the cloud, probably already know that it is a complex process that requires thorough expertise, budget, time and change management set in place.
Yet, perhaps an even more important question is – how do you choose the right cloud provider for your organization? Among the crucial factors such as budget, security, data migration and scalability, you may also want to consider how the software would be tailored for your specific industry. Consideration of the industry is important because, that way, you and the provider you choose can determine the best way to utilize the cloud for your business’s unique architecture, needs and potential.

Moving motorsports to the cloud
The ORECA Group, an iconic motorsport company, has recently announced a strategic partnership with IFS and its integration partner K4-U, opting for the IFS Cloud solution to optimize its operations and stimulate growth.
According to the announcement, this collaboration aims to enhance the integration and management of ORECA’s various branches, including the design, development and manufacturing of race cars, multi-channel sales and event production.
Specifically, by opting for IFS Cloud, ORECA will be able to centralize its manufacturing, sales and event activities on a tailored solution, as well as utilize a scalable data model for all its activities and provide detailed operational and financial reports for better performance management.
According to David Soulat, CFO of the ORECA Group, the choice fell on IFS due to its renowned expertise in the motorsport sector:
“Choosing IFS and K4-U for the implementation of a new ERP reflects our desire to modernize and integrate all our activities. Their expertise in motorsport and their ability to meet our specific needs were decisive […].”
IFS’s track record shows that this is not the first time it has collaborated with a motorsports company. For instance, in 2023, American racing team AJ Foyt Racing announced IFS as their strategic technology partner for the 2023, 2024 and 2025 IndyCar Racing seasons with options for extension.
Continuing this idea of industry specificity, Mathieu Daudigny, managing director of IFS France, commented that the partnership emphasizes IFS’s commitment to the manufacturing and motorsport sectors and confirms its ability to support companies in their digital transformation. Finally, Eric Storme, General Manager of K4-U, also shared that IFS Cloud is “a complete solution particularly suited to this context”, highlighting the industry-specific capabilities of the solution.
An ambitious ERP for a speedy industry
The emphasis on the industry in this example is not coincidental – as can be seen here, finding a solution that would be industry-specific seemed to be one of the priorities for ORECA Group. Being a large competitor in its industry, the organization cannot afford to have an ERP system that would not cater to its specific end-to-end manufacturing processes, sales and event production needs.
In motorsports in particular, there is always a need to predict and perfect race strategies, which is why cloud technology can help them build simulations to factor elements such as weather, crashes, pitstop and tire changes, the roughness of the track and more. Additionally, motorsports face the challenge of designing a new, faster car that would exceed expectations even further. Dealing with thousands of precision components and complex logistics operations, motorsports companies can use cloud ERP technology to streamline production, correlate components with telemetry data and maximize vehicle performance.
This way, ORECA found the perfect match that would not only help it scale as a company but also make the migration journey as smooth as possible due to the vendor’s industry knowledge and tailored capabilities.
Big ambition requires equally ambitious yet stable technology that can accelerate the business’s operations, rather than slow them down. In a time when data and competition are continuously expanding and globalizing, organizations can rely on vendors like IFS that can tailor solutions to their industries, providing the necessary expertise and individualized approach.
