The Formula One (F1) 2023 season is drawing to a close, with the final race in Abu Dhabi this Sunday. The first race of the new season isn’t kicking off until March 2024, but the newest ERP/F1 team partnership to join the paddock sees SAP teaming up with Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team as an Official Team Partner to accelerate operational efficiency and unlock new data insights to drive performance gains.

SAP S/4HANA Cloud will serve as the technology foundation for the team, enabling Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS to explore the use of AI and cloud solutions from SAP to inform and predict decisions, optimize resources and future-proof their IT infrastructure.

The focal points of this partnership include mastering cost-cap challenges and optimizing the team’s supply chain. The Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team plans to navigate these challenges by leveraging SAP S/4HANA Finance to allocate, save and use resources more efficiently. Additionally, SAP Business AI will be embedded to allow the team to forecast costs, predict final budget needs and optimize the supply chain and stocked items.

The UK-based team will also have access to SAP Build solutions and SAP Business Technology Platform to bring together a single view of data and systems from various sources across the organization.

Julia White, member of the Executive Board of SAP SE and chief marketing and solutions officer, said: “F1 is one of the most technologically innovative sports in the world, where incremental gains yield significant results. Given the extreme conditions under which F1 teams operate, motorsports provide a global platform to showcase skill and engineering excellence.

“But beyond the race day performance, there’s a lot going on behind the scenes. SAP is proud to partner with Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team to make sure its operations are as fine-tuned as its cars.”

Toto Wolff, CEO and team principal, Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team, said: “We are delighted to announce SAP as an Official Team Partner of the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team.

“We have a shared heritage and commitment to innovation and improvement, which will meaningfully contribute to our on-track performance. SAP is a global leader in its field and we could not think of a better partner to help us improve our efficiencies in 2024 and beyond.”

SAP is the latest vendor to join the world of F1 with recent announcements seeing ServiceNow joining Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant F1 Team as its official Intelligent Platform Partner to steer the team into success, streamlining the AMR Technology Campus onto the ServiceNow platform.
