Sage and AI Agents

Key Takeaways

Sage unveiled new AI-powered ERP tools at the Sage Future for Partners event, which aim to enhance compliance, efficiency, and growth for SMBs.

The introduction of the AI Developer Solutions and next-gen Sage X3 emphasizes Sage's commitment to leveraging AI technology to improve financial workflows and user experience.

The upcoming Sage Intacct Finance Intelligence Agent will enable finance professionals to interact with data using natural language, streamlining their processes and enhancing decision-making.

On November 4, Sage unveiled a suite of AI-powered ERP tools designed to help small- and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) at its Sage Future for Partners event in Barcelona, Spain.

The announcements made during the event include Sage’s new AI Developer Solutions that will expand Sage Copilot’s capabilities, a Sage X3 upgrade to provide next-gen cloud services, and a forthcoming Sage Intacct Finance Intelligence Agent to transform daily tax and accounting operations.

Together, the new AI-powered tools from Sage show that specialized ERP providers are investing in the technology SMBs need to maintain compliance, improve efficiency, and grow their business.

AI Developer Solutions expand Sage Copilot’s reach

Accounting and finance professionals that use the Sage Platform will soon have a wider range of capabilities through the Sage Copilot productivity assistant.

Sage introduced AI Developer Solutions, which allows the company’s partners, as well as Independent Software Vendors (ISVs), to build AI agents and automate workflows on the Sage Platform. The AI Agents and workflows they produce integrate into Sage Copilot, expanding the tools available to professionals.

Aaron Harris, CTO, Sage, explained, “We are giving our partners the ability to build with Sage intelligence at their core. Together, we can accelerate innovation for millions of small and mid-sized businesses, bringing AI Agents out of the lab and into the real workflows where they’ll make the biggest impact.”

As one of Sage’s first AI Developer Solutions partners, tax and regulatory specialist Sovos has focused on intelligent agents that help businesses maintain tax compliance.

Kevin Akeroyd, CEO, Sovos, said, “We’re building intelligent agents that integrate seamlessly into finance workflows, helping businesses make faster, smarter decisions while driving measurable improvements in productivity and profitability.”

Next gen Sage X3 ready for the UK, US, and Germany

During the event, Sage also introduced an upgrade on its fully managed Sage X3 cloud service for early adopters in the UK, US, and Germany, with an expansion planned for customers in France, Canada, and South Africa.

The next-gen Sage X3 provides continuous updates for its users, simplifying the system upgrade process. “It strips away the burden of system maintenance while preserving the powerful configurability that makes Sage X3 stand out,” according to Dan Miller, EVP at Sage.

The enhanced cloud service also sets the stage for the new AI Agents and workflows that Sage is developing with its partners. Additionally, Sage announced two new capabilities as part of the next-gen Sage X3 launch: Sage Copilot’s Sales Insights, an AI-powered tool designed to help users realize revenue opportunities, and Sage Copilot Chat, which provides users practical advice throughout their workday.

Next gen Sage X3 users should expect more to come. Miller said, “By combining cloud, our partners’ deep industry knowledge, Copilot, and future AI Agents, we’re helping businesses save time, move faster, adapt, and focus on what really drives growth.”

Sage Intacct Finance Intelligence Agent coming in December

Sage Intacct users in the UK and US will soon be able to access the Finance Intelligence Agent, which Sage developed to complement a suite of specialized AI agents for finance and accounting professionals.

Once it is launched in December, professionals in the UK and US will be able to ask the new agent natural-language questions and receive responses that route to data, as well as complementary agents, including Close Agent, AP Agent, Assurance Agent, and Time Agent.

Sage designed the Finance Intelligence Agent to work alongside finance teams, allowing users to access, collate, and manipulate data, removing the need to create reports and spreadsheets manually.

Steve Hare, CEO of Sage, concluded, “It’s about giving finance leaders more confidence in their numbers and the freedom to guide the business. This is authentic, finance-first AI that empowers high-performing teams and equips them with transparent, accurate, and audit-ready insights.”

What This Means for ERP Insiders

AI is now a necessity, not a nice-to-have. ERP providers like Sage have developed the capacity to move from proprietary AI tools to an open AI ecosystem, expanding the breadth of customized AI agents available to their users. For example, Sage Copilot customers will be among the first to access custom-built AI agents tailored to their tax and regulatory requirements.

Uncover new business opportunities with AI. ERPs that are directly embedded with AI deliver a continuously updated cloud, and increasingly relevant information. Thus, tax and accounting professionals that uncover revenue opportunities with Sage Copilot’s Sales Insights, or manage tasks with Sage Copilot Chat, will find more time for value-added services.

AI is helping tax and accounting professionals save time on transactional duties. It is enabling them to invest in strategic advisory. Tools like Sage Intacct Finance Intelligence Agent provide proactive, conversational intelligence for professionals to provide audit-ready insight in real-time.
