This week, Workday strengthened its position as a leader in ERP-native automation.
The company announced an agreement to acquire Pipedream, which provides a platform for building AI agents to connect applications. The agreement reportedly promises Workday users access to Pipedream’s 3,000 pre-built connectors, as well as its platform, which helps AI agents connect apps, automate workflows, and move data.
Workday also announced that Google BigQuery became a Workday Data Cloud partner, providing a new integration for analytics, and a Workday GO extension that will deliver ready-to-deploy ERP solutions with AI-driven automation.
Workday will remain a system of record for many of its users. But these latest moves show it is strengthening its offering for users ready to execute more complex workflows.
Pipedream to Enhance ERP Automation
Pipedream provides a low-code integration platform with more than 3,000 pre-built connectors, which provide fast, reliable app integration.
After Workday completes its acquisition, scheduled to occur before January 31, 2026, Workday should start integrating Pipedream capabilities, which will allow users to connect Workday’s ERP with other enterprise apps. Workday will also get to expand the reach of its AI agents, which will make cross-system automation more viable.
These capabilities create new opportunities for Workday ERP users to pull data, trigger workflows, and execute tasks across both Workday and external third-party applications, including Asana, Hubspot, Jira, Recurly, and Slack.
As an example, Workday said in a press release that “an agent could accelerate performance reviews using Workday’s deep understanding of a company’s organizational structure, pull project details from Jira or Asana, request peer feedback through Slack, and then update performance records directly in Workday.”
Data Cloud Open for Google BigQuery
Workday is making its ERP data better suited for enterprise-scale AI. The Google BigQuery integration positions Workday ERP as a more open, analytics-ready platform.
This partnership will allow customers to access their Workday HR and finance data directly in Google Cloud without copying or moving it, simplifying advanced analytics and predictive modeling. It also allows users to bring AI‑driven predictions or insights from BigQuery back into Workday to inform decisions and drive outcomes.
Andi Gutmans, vice president and general manager, data cloud, Google Cloud, said the partnership will allow customers to “build intelligent agents to streamline their operations and drive smarter and more timely decisions with confidence.”
Ready-to-Deploy ERP with Global Payroll
Workday also expanded its all-in-one ERP deployment solution, Workday GO, to include GO Global Payroll, a Workday GO Partner Network, and an AI-powered Deployment Agent.
GO Global Payroll is designed for medium-sized businesses that need an end-to-end solution to onboard and pay employees in multiple countries. Workday expanded its partnership with Remote, which provides a global HR and payroll platform, to provide this payroll solution that also manages local compliance.
The new Workday GO Partner Network, meanwhile, brings together global payroll, benefits, and deployment specialists to ensure customers have the support they need for international growth plans. The network includes Benefit Harbor, BNB, HR Path, Kainos, OneSource Virtual, Remote, TopBloc, and Three Link Solutions.
As part of the Workday GO suite, Workday also announced the Deployment Agent. The new AI agent guides teams through the roll-out process of Workday GO modules. Workday said it is already using the agent, which cuts standard implementation times by up to 25%.
What this Means for ERP Insiders
The Pipedream acquisition will simplify cross-system automation. With 3,000+ prebuilt connectors and a low-code integration platform, Pipedream will enable Workday ERP users to pull data from third-party tools like Jira, Slack, and HubSpot and deploy AI agents to run workflows across multiple systems.
The Google BigQuery integration makes Workday ERP data more valuable. With BigQuery as a Workday Data Cloud partner, ERP users can obtain zero-copy access to HR and finance data. Teams can run advanced analytics and build predictive models without manual data exports, enabling data-based decision-making at the speed of business.
Workday is committed to faster, smarter ERP deployments. The Workday GO Global Payroll and GO Partner Network establish the company as a one-stop-shop for businesses expanding overseas. Plus, the Workday GO Deployment Agent shows a key differentiator: accelerated and more efficient deployments informed by best practices.
